Meet Your Instructor
Henrique De Almeida
Professor Berklee College of Music
Henrique was born and grew up in Brazil. By the time he was 16, he was touring the world with Brazilian pop star, Alceu Valenca.
He received a Bachelors degree in Jazz Composition and he went on to pursue his Masters in Music Performance degree in Mississippi. In 1998 he joined the US Air Force and served as an active duty bandsman for 13 years.
In 2011, Henrique started teaching at Berklee College of Music in Boston and was promoted to Full Professor in 2019. Teaching has always been his passion. Some of his former students include Stephen Taylor, David Cola, and Dennis Sanderson.
Henrique has written and published 7 instrucional drum books which are currently being used for all of his classes that are taught at Berklee. He has also written articles for Modern Drummer magazine.
He has been approached by ABC's "Dancing With The Stars" and has done commercial work with HBO, Victoria's Secret, David Jones Department stores and others.
As a clinician, Henrique has presented and performed at PASIC (Percussive Arts Society International Convention) and JEN (Jazz Educators Network). He also travels around the country doing drum clinics as well as online seminars and webinars.
During his 13 years in the US Air Force, he toured nationally and internationally with the Air Force Academy Falconaires Contemporary Jazz Big Band. He has also performed several times at Carnegie Hall. Other artists include: Billy Cobham, Matt Garrison, Bill Summers, Dave Ellefson (Megadeath), Victor Wooton, Leo Blanco, Steve Hunt, Bruce Gertz, Dave Samuels, Jerry Gergonzi, Gloria Estefan, Nat Adderley, Antonio Hart, Stanton Moore, among others.
