Double Pedal Integration

For

The Jazz & Jazz Fusion Drummer

 Who is this for:

  • For any drummer of any level that plays double bass and want to expand their vocabulary to a more sophisticated level
  • Drummers who are not sure if they should get a double pedal
  • Drummers who have no idea on how to use double pedal in music other than heavy metal
  • Drummers who are thinking about getting a double pedal
  • Drummers who have a double pedal and never used

Who is this NOT for:

  • Total beginners
  • Drummers who want to play as fast as possible and as loud as possible and have no desire to be able to improvise fills, improvise solos, and play in several styles
  • Drummers who can’t read at all – some of the demonstrations will be referring to rhythmic rates such as triplets, 16th notes, sextuplets, 32nd notes, quintuplets, septuplets etc.  Having no idea what this means will make the participation a bit challenging.

It's a hands-on webinar.

You will have a chance to play along and ask questions.

In this live and interactive session, Henrique will explore double bass techniques and musical concepts used by drummers such as Vinnie Colaiuta, Steve Smith, Dave Weckl, Dennis Chambers, Tommy Aldridge, Louis Bellson, Billy Cobham, and Horacio Hernandez.

Many people associate double bass drum playing with very loud heavy metal rock type of music. Henrique designed a course that presents an alternative and creative view that offers a different approach. Double bass drumming speed, volume and power is the focus of many double bass drummers.

Henrique’s approach to double bass is not necessarily focused on playing loud and fast, rather he teaches and focuses more on how to develop the ability to play with a good feel, a good sound, relaxed, with a large range of dynamics, playing with a variety of unique interesting rhythms in as many styles as possible.

The concepts that Henrique teaches is useful in Rock, Jazz, Funk, Hi-Hop, Jazz Fusion, fills, solos, improvisation, reading, coordination, Brazilian, Afro-Cuban, odd meters, and polyrhythms applications.

He focusses on using both feet on one bass drum, hi-hat, double pedal, and left foot cow bell. So, double bass pedal integration means to integrate the double bass pedal musically, tastefully, appropriately, to your way of playing and does not mean to always play very loudly and very fast. It means blending in with any musical performance situation, creatively without intruding with the musical space pf the other members of the band.

He also teaches in depth about playing compositionally as a solo artist. He offers a tremendous number of materials related to double pedal fills, soloing and improvisation.

Henrique was a full-time professor at the Berklee College of Music for more than 10 years. He was also a course designer for the percussion department and designed several courses for the college including the acclaimed course entitled “Double Bass Integration for The Jazz Fusion Drummer” which the book of same title got amazing reviews at Modern Drummer magazine. The course/book is endorsed by world-class drummers such as Paul Wertico, Tommy Aldridge, Terri Lyne Carrington, Kenwood Dennard, Walfredo Reyes, Antonio Sanchez, and Aquiles Priester.

The Drum Set Coach Academy and online school offer students from all over the world a chance to expand and improve their drum set skills.

Students are having fun playing new materials and also progressing to a much higher level of playing opportunities.Â
