Henrique De Almeida
During my 10+ years at Berklee College of Music, 3 years at Southern Mississippi University, and over 40 years of teaching drums, I have seen and worked with students of all levels; from beginners to Grammy winning touring artists. Those opportunities have allowed me to successfully help students to move to their next level.
Here are some of the common problems I see with the majority of students:
- they don't have a clear understanding of their strengths and weaknesses.
- they don't have the proper exercises that focus on their needs.
- they don't know how to identify and solve their drumming problems.
- they are unable to read music at a high level.
- they don't know how to interpret charts.
- they don't have a strategy for their practice time.
So....I created a learning system that teaches drummers how to play musically.
What happens when we play with a band?
- We must be listening attentively.
- We must understand the music with or without charts.
- We must listen to the styles we want to play and understand the history.
- We must develop a sound that is appropriate for the music that we're playing.
- We need to have the proper gear.
- We must stay inside a musical form.
- We play in a certain style.
- We must play in time.
- We must play with dynamics.
- We might be reading.
- We must negotiate orchestrations.
- We must transition smoothly from section to section.
- We must understand the composition.
- We might have to improvise, embellish rhythms, and have a range of dynamics of expression.
- We're dealing with musical phrasing and composition form.
All of those skills are included in my Etudes/Recital System.

Features of TDSC University:
How it works
Register for the year, meet weekly for one hour in a small group (4-6 students) of similar levels, weekly homework assignments, weekly office hours, feedback sessions monthly to check progress. You'll have lesson plan for each phase.
Weekly Coaching Sessions
We will meet on Zoom each week to present and discuss homework and answer questions. You will receive personalized feedback from the instructor. If you can't be there live, you can watch the recording.
Supplemental Resources
You will have access to our incredible online library containing a variety of practice routines. You'll also find encouragement and guidance on how to practice efficiently. Students really enjoy our online video library especially the shed sessions where they can practice along with the coach.
Accountability
One of the greatest incentives for consistency and progress is having purpose. Having a weekly meeting to present homework with other students in the group will inspire you to keep progressing. You will have a chance to hear and see other students working on similar materials. That's where the magic happens. Community. This is what makes TDSC University different than other drum schools.
Self Paced Videos
Most of the courses, such as hand technique, foot technique, jazz coordination, etc. could and should be reviewed during the week by accessing the online library. Doing so will allow you to progress faster. You're able to watch and review video lessons as much as you want. Then you'll work on your presentation for our live sessions.
Small Class Size
The smaller the class, the better the results. You deserve personalized attention, feedback, and a chance to be seen and heard. We value community AND we also treasure the opportunity to treat everyone as an individual. You're more than just a number here.
